Part 4: The Supporting Army (Medic, Juggernaut, Bombardier, Sniper)
Hehe, this week’s DNews is going to be SSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOO…
Basically, you remember how last week we introduced three members of any Dot Wars army: the Grunt, the Gunner, and the Specialist. They tend to shoot guns, which can be pretty helpful for many different engagements. However, I think it would be pretty boring if all that we had were some bullets and rockets flying about… ok, fine that is still really awesome, but there is more to it than that!
We have another group of Dots that play a more supportive role in the Dot Wars army. I think I will call them The Supporting Army. These are the guys that are most likely to help others kill you.
Medic
Would this game be anything without these guys?
Medics do exactly what you think they do: they heal you and your teammates. If your health is low, this guy is likely to go up to you and send you a bit of his healing magic-stuff. Though they can only heal one Dot at a time, the Medic is still very capable of turning the tide of any conflict just by healing as many Dots as they possibly can.
Juggernaut
First thing you need to know: This Dot is SO much less annoying than he used to be.
So, what on Earth/Spheros is a Juggernaut? Well, basically, it is our way of replacing the Medic that was created in the Dot Wars II Beta. Back then, none of the Dots had much health, so the way that we decided to have the Medic “heal” people was just by blocking bullets.
In hindsight, that sounds really stupid.
So now that the Medic actually heals things, what if there still was a Dot that blocked bullets? That would create an interesting dynamic where some Dots actually become “meat-shields” of sorts. Thus the Juggernaut was born from the ashes of the old version of the Medic.
The Juggernaut has significantly higher health than other dots so that it can survive large barrages from enemy Gunners and Grunts, but it also has a rather large riot shield in front of it. This shield is totally impervious to bullets and rockets, which allows for the Juggernaut to take the place of the old Medic in a very controlled and cool way.
They can also bump enemies around. This power is currently a very small portion of what it used to be because we changed the physics around a bit to make them still a type of “crowd control” unit but not an “impenetrable steal fortress” unit.
Bombardier
Anyone that has played the Dot Wars II Beta know exactly who these guys are.
A Bombardier Dot is that one Dot that you know you are going to hate from the get-go. They sit in the back of the map and call in airplanes that drop bombs on you and all your friends and family. They also do a really great job of blowing everything up, especially the enemy team.
I like them a lot.
Sniper
One of the most classic of all Dots, the Sniper can touch anyone of the battlefield with an extremely fast and deadly bullet.
The Sniper was always very powerful, and continues to be so today. He shuffles around the map looking for victims and running away from predators. They are decently weak, but can evade enemies at a heightened level. There isn’t a whole lot of intricacies to his behavior, but that doesn’t stop him from being a valuable asset to any Dot Wars army.
I guess you have seen the whole Dot Wars army, right? Because, you know, there isn’t any sort of COMMANDING force on the battlefield in Dot Wars, right?
Heh. You, reader, have a lot to learn about Dot Wars and its mechanics. Check back next week to get an introduction to the best part of the game: The Player.
