First off, welcome to the Emberware Forums! You may have been referred here from somewhere else, or possibly just stumbled upon us in one of your confusing jaunts around the internet. In either case, we are glad you made it. Some general information about this place may be helpful if you plan on staying for a while. Please do, kick off your shoes and take off your coat, make yourself at home. While you are here though, we simply ask that you promote a pleasant atmosphere, rather than look for trouble.
So, the first question that you may be asking yourself is, "What is Emberware?"
Good question. It has meant many things to different people over the last few years, so let me take a moment to explain the past. If the past is not your fancy, then you will not miss anything if you skip the next few paragraphs.
Emberware started itself as an idea in July of 2006, by myself and two other gentlemen. Being intrepid junior high students as we were, founding a software company was the only natural thing to do in life. We went under the name of EmberWare Studios, as we intended originally to make video games and other, non-gaming products. For the first few years, EmberWare Studios grew in size when we involved our friends and other captivated teenagers. We released a video game, called Dot Wars: Assassins, and an expansion-esque sequel to this game, Dot Wars: Assassins: Renegade. The double colon should have been warning enough that trouble was on the horizon.
You see, we were overly ambitious. We put so many irons in the fire that we nearly snuffed it out. EmberWare Studios reached about 14 people in total, most of the "members" just friends that liked playing video games as well. We, for the most part, meandered through school with fantasies of all the games we would eventually make, sometimes making entire series of plotlines up out of thin air. This was a pattern that could not sustain itself without a backbone of people actually doing work to support it. Through the high school years, many of the old members dropped off of the radar, or life's fateful turbulence swept them away onto different paths. By the end of 2010, EmberWare Studios was no more. A reform was in order, different from the many failed attempts to get things afloat before. Enter Emberware.
With just four intrepid explorers left, we have simplified things greatly. One studio, one staff, and one game at a time. Fortune smiles on those who work hard for their fruits, and we have ourselves stayed on the road of becoming real life video game developers. The goal is becoming more clear and more concrete every day, and each day we move one step closer to making a childhood dream come true.
History lesson aside, my hope is that you will all enjoy your time here on our forums. Get to know the staff, we are the people with funny colored text, and we want to make sure our visitors are taken care of. So enjoy, explore the forums, make them grow, and in return we offer you fun, games, and community.
Thanks! - PT
